INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF KARATE
United States Kyokushin Karate – IFK Organization (USA–IFKK), is the official U.S.
organization of the International Federation of Karate (IFK). The IFK, with
headquarters in Great Britain, was founded by Hanshi (Honorable Master) Steve
Arneil in 1991.
Hanshi Arneil, who currently holds the rank of Kudan (9th Dan), was one
of Mas Oyama's foremost students in Japan in the early 1960's. He formed the
IFK so that Kyokushin Karate, as he learned it from Mas Oyama, could be taught
consistently throughout the world. His goal is for each and every Kyokushin
karateka (karate practitioner) at any dojo in any country to be able to perform
all of the techniques and kata the same. Toward that end, Hanshi Arneil has
developed a systematic grading syllabus for the IFK and has published a book on
Kyokushin kata and a book on the bunkai (applications) of the kata.
