Eagle Wings Karate in Kingfisher, Oklahoma hosted the IFK Oklahoma Kyokushin Seminar on September 19th and 20th, drawing over 40 participants from across the region. It was encouraging to see a strong turnout of non-IFK students training alongside us, building connections and strengthening the Kyokushin spirit.

Training began Friday evening with work on the fundamentals. Kihon and kumite drills were led by Shihan William Schrader (6th Dan) and Sensei Omar Covarrubias (3rd Dan) from Kaizen Kan Kyokushin in Tucson, Arizona. They set the tone for an intense weekend of instruction. On Saturday, they were joined by Sensei Bill Stewart (3rd Dan) from Texas Kyokushin Karate.

Saturday morning’s sessions focused heavily on kihon and kata with Sensei Stewart and Sensei Covarrubias taking the lead on the kata session. After a short lunch break, the training resumed with a series of knockdown-focused kumite drills directed by Sensei Covarrubias with Sensei Stewart working separately with the younger participants.

The afternoon included a brief presentation on knockdown rules by Sensei Stewart, with additional insights from Sensei Covarrubias. To conclude the day, participants engaged in spirited sparring under knockdown rules, applying what they had learned by observing, judging, and experiencing matches firsthand.

Special thanks to Shihan Ellis Weber (5th Dan) and Eagle Wings Karate for hosting and making this event possible. The energy, perseverance, and camaraderie shown throughout the weekend truly reflected the spirit of Kyokushin. Osu!
