USA-IFK Begins Search for 2028 World Championships Kata Team

The USA-IFK is beginning the process of identifying athletes for its kata team to compete at the 1st IFK & KWF Kyokushin World Championships, scheduled for November 11, 2028, in Sibiu, Romania.
Tournament Details
Hosted at Transylvania Hall in Sibiu, Romania, this event will bring together Kyokushin practitioners from around the globe. The championship will feature:
Kata and Kumite Competitions
Open Weight Categories
World-class fighters and kata performers representing the best of IFK & KWF
USA-IFK will be fielding both kata and kumite teams at this event. This announcement focuses specifically on the kata team selection process.
USA-IFK Kata Team Development
USA-IFK President Shihan Mike Monaco has tasked Senpai Rebecca Haskel with coordinating the identification and development of karateka interested in competing on the kata team. Following the team's performance at the 2024 IFK World Kata Championships (where USA-IFK athletes earned top-10 finishes on the world stage), the organization is continuing to build its international kata competition program.
Categories and Eligibility
Senior Division
Age: 18 years and above
Junior Division
Age: 12-17 years
Note: Ages refer to participants' age on the day of the tournament.
Get Involved
Karateka interested in this opportunity should speak with their dojo instructor. Instructors will be working with USA-IFK leadership to identify and recommend candidates for team consideration.
